| Resisting the Israeli Security Barrier / fence, Apartheid wall, Isolation wall, Wall of imprisonment, Annexation wall .... (call it what you want, its a wall, not a bridge) The villagers have resorted to Gandhi style resistance, standing in front of bulldozers, debating with soldiers and holding rallies. In 2004 and 2005 with the help of International's (International Solidarity Movement members) and other supporters (including Israeli's) events were held opposing the construction of the wall. Some of the young men resorted to stone throwing and are met with bullets from the Israelis. Two died. The start of the wall building in Beit Surik
A message for the world - the Wall imprisons whole towns
The Israeli response to peaceful protest. Note the man raising his hands and showing his palms to the soldiers, a sign of non violence
Pictures from a local newspaper Note the guns used by the Israelis against unarmed demonstrators standing in front of a bulldozer. The ease with which modern Israelis resort to violence and killing is horrifying. On average, one Palestinian child is killed every three days by the Israeli Army and settlers. When you are told about these events personally by the parents or family, something visits achieve, you understand the scale of the human rights abuses. Women play an important part in helping resist the construction of the wall The only weapons the Palestinians have are slings for throwing stones at the armed Israelis. The smoke in the background is tear gas.
